Phil and I flew from LA to Washington D.C. this morning to celebrate the holidays with family. Now that we’ve landed, I can’t believe it’s actually warmer here than it’s been in LA. 70 Degrees in December on the east coast is pretty crazy and although I packed all of my winter gear, we’re thankful not to have to layer up this year! Fashion-wise, I’ve been painting a lot of holiday inspiration recently and this red gown is one of my favorites.
I’m always so inspired by the gowns on any Hollywood red carpet but my favorite dresses of all are usually at the Academy Awards. I have always been drawn to old Hollywood glamour since I can remember and I love imagining how all of the couture gowns looked on paper before they were constructed.
Happy Thursday, everyone! I can’t believe it’s almost February (and Valentine’s Day!). January has completely flown by–I started a new job, I’ve been in crazy wedding planning mode with my fiancé (less than three months to go until the big day!) and I’ve also been down for the count this week with bronchitis. All of that said, it’s been tough to post as much as usual and I’ve been a bit M.I.A.!
I loved so many gowns at the Emmys this year, I couldn’t help but paint some of my favorites. This is my take on Sarah Hyland of Modern Family’s beautiful frock. I love the volume in her Christian Siriano skirt and how the white crop-top balances the bright color so elegantly. I would wear this outfit in a heartbeat. This past week marked the start of one of my favorite times of the year in the Big Apple, New York Fashion Week. Unfortunately, I now live on the opposite coast so I have to enjoy NYFW from Los Angeles. As a fashion illustrator, I have always greatly looked up to designers who showcase their incredible lines on the runway; each piece is truly a work of art. Since not all fashion lovers can sit on the side of NYFW runways as the beautiful models whisk by, I’ve put together a photo-recap of some of my favorite looks so far from a bunch of different designers who continue to inspire me. Overall trends I’ve noticed include: a lot of color blocking, crop tops, lady-like armpit-length gloves, bright colors that really pop and a lot of cut-outs. I’m excited to see these lines hit the racks and ultimately inspire the rest of the fashion world next season and beyond.
