Below, you will find the latest and greatest from my D.I.Y. extraordinaire sister, Adena. This week, she was inspired by studs. Studs are very on-trend in fashion right now–they’re on bags, jewelry, leather jackets, shoes and everything in between. Adena came up with a fun, easy, not to mention inexpensive way for you to rock your own studded accessory of the moment: in the form of a suede headband. The best part? You can make one of your own in just three simple steps and without breaking the bank. Enjoy!
1) First, measure your head by wrapping the piece of suede around it as if it’s a headband already. Here, you can find out how much extra material you should cut off. Be sure to leave a little bit of extra material so you can loop the ends of the suede through your elastic band.
- 2) Once your material is looped through your elastic band, begin to sew a few stitches on each side to secure. You can also use super glue for this step but I have found the stitches are a bit more sturdy.
- 3) Now onto the studs: you can use as many studs as you choose, depending on the look you are going for. I’ve included two looks above–one with more studs and one with less. Push the stud’s prongs through the suede material and once they’ve gone through, bend them down so they are now lying flat along the suede. This will help them to stay secure.
- And voila! You have yourself a comfy chic headband. Feel free to play around with the color of the suede material you choose, as well as the studs! The headband looks great with your hair down or around a top knot.
