Happy Monday from the east coast! I’m on the last big trip I’m allowed to take during my pregnancy before I can no longer fly and I’m enjoying every minute. It’s crazy to think that this will be my last time traveling before I’m a officially a mom and there’s something so special about that. I’ve enjoyed the freedom of being able to pick everything up and go at the drop of a hat throughout my career so far and I’m doing my best to mentally prepare myself for the next couple of years (and beyond!) of having more responsibility at home (and keeping a tiny human alive and healthy!). As I write this, I’m looking around at moms throughout JFK airport who are juggling infants, giant mom bags and they look super stressed out. I can barely wrap my head around it all right now but of course I am excited for this next chapter.
This weekend was spent in Washington D.C. where my hubby, family and I celebrated a family friend’s wedding. The wedding took place in central D.C. and views from the venue of the Washington Monument were incredible. Phil’s family also happens to live in D.C. so it was such a special quick trip where were able to see them as well.
I wore this dress (similar here), (here), and (here) to the bride and groom’s welcome dinner. My mom actually helped me to pick it out a few months back because she was convinced that swing dresses would be the most comfy choice for my growing bump. She was totally right and I’ve now been on the hunt for more affordable dresses in this shape (because I wear this one at least once a week).
If you’re pregnant (or if you’re not and are looking for a universally flattering, comfy dress shape), do yourself a favor and search for swing dresses. These dresses are tighter up top to show off your shoulders and then they flare out starting around the bust in an A-line shape. Truth be told, this particular dress is not maternity but it totally fits because of the shape (and I’d love to wear it after baby too). I love that it’s not figure-hugging and that the bump can breathe!
Today, I paired it with my favorite pair of sparkly heels (which were also my wedding shoes that I love wearing on repeat!) and blush sunnies (only $50!) to match. I kept the rest of the look simple so the focus would be on the embellished heels.
I’m currently wearing something far less fancy today as I travel to northern Maine for a production shoot. Excited to be visiting here in May because I get to to experience spring on the east coast for the first time in years. Although LA is almost picture-perfect all year round, spring on the east coast feels so much more special and everyone seems to appreciate it more. Keeping my fingers crossed for some beautiful weather and a great shoot.
