Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and that 2017 is kicking off to a great, positive start. Phil and I wrapped out 2016 in a beautiful Airbnb cabin in snowy Big Bear, California. As a native New Yorker, the fact that I’m now vacationing to cold places means I’ve probably been in LA too long but I’m so happy we went. The cold felt so good and the snow was so homey and festive. Still very thankful to be a Cali girl though because we were able to drive back to the warmth and palm trees of LA in about two hours. Bye bye, winter!
Wearing a basic outfit today which is made up of my new favorite pair of jeans I scored from Madewell. I’ve been eyeing short bootcut jeans for a while now but I never pulled the trigger on them because I wasn’t sure if they would work on petite girls (tall girls look amazing in these!). I’m happy I tried them though because I love where the raw hem meets the ankle and I realized these pants are actually quite flattering on all different body types. If you’re open to trying this type of jean, search for them under cali demi-boot and you’ll find a bunch of great pairs. They’ll also be perfect for spring with sandals.
Today, I paired these jeans with basics–a western skinny belt, Zara heels (similar here) and (here), which are a much more affordable version of a pair by Chanel that I’m obsessed with. I topped the look off with a simple turtleneck. Sometimes, less is more and this look felt like just that.
Lastly, I don’t know if it’s because of the election or because 2016 felt like such a tough year overall but I’ve been thinking about New Year’s resolutions this year more than ever. January is always such an interesting time because I always notice all of the extra people flocking to the gym, trying to start the year off right. By February, attendance is oftentimes right back to normal. To this point, I’ve been thinking about how important it is to brainstorm resolutions I feel I can really stick to for the whole year that will feel meaningful.
Sharing my Top Three New Year’s Resolutions:
1) Be More Present: I work full-time in the digital media world and also love coming home and blogging at night. As I love what I do, I often forget to put down my laptop or phone from morning until night to just breathe! Stepping into 2017, I am going to do my best to remind myself to take more deep breaths, to take a step back at least everyday to appreciate all of life’s little moments more and to give myself more of a break when needed. This year, I’m going to continually remind myself that taking breaks is actually okay and that we don’t have to set out each day to function like machines. 2017, let’s do this right!
2) Find My Zen: As I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to realize I’m a full-out anxious person. A lot of people in Los Angeles and beyond throw the word ‘anxiety’ around constantly but I’ve realized over the past few years that I definitely have it and it’s something I’m learning to admit and manage. I’m thankful to my blog for giving me a creative outlet to escape to–it has been a big help. For anyone with anxiety, you will know how helpful it is to stay busy and to create a routine for yourself. This year, I’m also going to add in more meditation and yoga into my routine after work. It’s so important to stay grounded and relaxed so that you can continue to grow and do what you love.
3) Give Back: I really miss carving out enough time to give back to both people and animals. Dabbling in helping does not feel like enough. Over the holidays, I reminded myself that being too busy is not an excuse and that I need to spend more time at least every other month volunteering. Helping others has always made me feel so much more fulfilled as a human being so I’m going to scope out some fun ways I can do just that throughout the year.
