best red lipstick

For the past few weeks, I’ve been on the hunt for a new lip color that subtly enhances my lips without adding too much extra color.  Throughout the summer months, I was a big fan of adding a statement lip with bright reds or pinks (like the one pictured above). But with tons of weddings coming up and a need for a more natural glam look this fall, I’ve decided to go back to the basics. Behold–I have finally found the light pink holy grail (and two fabulous glosses to put over it) and I can’t get enough.  The best part? This color works equally well on all different skin tones.

THE LIPSTICK:  My new favorite lipstick is from Makeup Forever’s Rouge Artist Intense collection. It’s #32, aka “Satin Soft Pink” and it’s kind of a big deal.  The color is a soft, natural pink and it doesn’t cake after wearing it for a few hours.  It’s the perfect color for brides or for bridal parties because it makes your lips pop without feeling too distracting.

THE GLOSSES:  I nailed down two glosses that both look beautiful on their own–and they also look even better over the soft pink lipstick.

  • The first is a nude pink color called White Russian by Buxom. This gloss is sheer and it plumps the lips. The soft color adds a beautiful sheen over the lipstick. If you wear it on its own, it gives off a very light nude gloss to your lips–which looks natural and pretty.
  • The second is a brighter pink shade by Nars called Istria.  I also love this gloss on its own or over my favorite new lipstick. It adds more color that the White Russian gloss but it’s still really natural-looking.
