If you follow me on Instagram, chances are you already know about my love for illustrating couture gowns–especially red carpet looks. Today, I’m excited to share some of my favorite recent sketches of gowns I’ve seen on the red carpet, as well as some others that I’d love to see on there. Above, I painted Sarah Hyland’s gown (of Modern Family) from last weekend’s Emmy’s.
I loved this Zac Posen look because the dress was so classic, simple, elegant and timeless (not to mention it fit Sarah like a glove!). Below I’ve also included some other recent looks from my sketchbook inspired by recent red carpets–but with a twist.
I’ve always had a thing for bows so when I conjured up this otherwise very simplistic gown in my head, I decided it needed to have a party in the back. Above, you can see the gown as a quick sketch before I later added in color.
I had a lot of fun getting inspired by intricate patterns over the last couple of weeks. This dress started out as a more simplistic red and white dress until I decided to add in some more color and detail. I’d love to see a dress with detailed beading like this on the red carpet. I think it could be really beautiful if it went all the way to the ground as well.
