This week, I had the pleasure of visiting M Dot Design Studio in Los Angeles with my amazing photographer friend, Alexandra Lee Nurthern. This beautiful studio was founded by Michelle Aquinos, an amazing fashion designer and dressmaker who creates original hand-made Parisian and Asian-inspired garments. Michelle prides herself on creating limited edition cut-and-sew pieces where she designs specifically for each client, rather than for the masses. Likewise, if you have some fabric that you absolutely love but you have no idea what to do with it, Michelle can work with you one-on-one to make a piece out of your fabric that will fit you and your style to-a-tee; it’s a truly personalized experience.
The M Dot Design Studio itself is really something to see: its charming storefront is tucked away near LA’s Hancock Park and the space oozes with creativity and character. Each of Michelle’s pieces–from scarves with one-of-a-kind textile prints to luxurious faux fur coats–are displayed beautifully around her space. I love that she also has sewing machines and cute vintage pieces sprinkled throughout the store, all of which add to the artsy ambiance of the space as well. Michelle creates her own textile prints for her garments so each of her pieces really do have a one-of-a-kind feel. My favorite of these textile prints was found on a pair of uber-comfy M Dot Boston Silk Shorts. The shorts are adorable and they’re made of the softest silk material.
Also for sale at M Dot Design are some other talented Los Angeles Designers’ pieces: Costella Handbags, Earthling and Robyn Rhodes. I fell in love with all of these accessories as well–especially Earthling’s Rib Bone Cuff and Bone Cuff (seen above), Costella’s White Bag and Robyn Rhode’s Madeline Ring. If you are not yet familiar with these amazing designers, definitely check their sites out as well–you will be hooked.
